Ping
Round-trip time and packet loss from our server. Use TCP mode when a host drops ICMP.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good ping time?
Within the same country, under 30 ms is excellent. Across a continent 30–100 ms is normal, and intercontinental paths are often 150–300 ms. Steady values matter as much as low ones: high jitter hurts calls and games.
Why does ping fail when the website works?
Many servers and firewalls drop ICMP echo requests. Switch to TCP mode and test port 443 or 80: if the handshake succeeds, the host is up.
What does packet loss mean?
Lost probes never got a reply. A little loss at a busy router is common, but loss at the destination usually means congestion, a faulty link or rate limiting.
